We no longer have a land line in Alpena. You will be dependent on your cell phones.
But there is no cell phone service that reaches Far Point. It stops about a half mile from the shore.
To use your cell phone you will need to turn on Wi-Fi Calling. That will allow you to both make and receive cell phone calls. You can find the option under Settings → Cellular → Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone, or Settings → Connections → Wi-Fi Calling on Android.
Should the internet go down for any reason, you will be completely cut off. The only way to make a call will be to head back into town until you get a cell signal.
